Lombard economy has historically been characterized by the presence of many manufacturing activities. Within the past thirty years the Lombard economy has shown an outstanding level of competitiveness thanks to the diffused presence at the local level of productive systems made by small and medium-size companies. Particularly relevant appears to be the "wood district".
