The "wood-district" situated in the area around Viadana during the past decades has become internationally well-known. This area clearly does not represent anymore a mere stereotype of agricultural economy in the Po valley, but rather an active Industrial District. The

development of the District, which started in the '60s thanks to the availability of resources and to the presence of skilled people with entrepreneurial attitude. The connection between the area and wood processing activities is mainly due

to the presence of cultivations of poplar. These cultivations coupled with the local activities dealing with poplar processing represent today, as well as in the past, a key components of the local economy.
